The Night of the Moon Has Many Hours
The Night of the Moon Has Many Hours follows a solitary man through his nightly ritual of recovering bodies from a river in Colombia’s Eastern Plains, returning the dead to those who mourn them.
Night after night, he navigates the black waters under impenetrable darkness, his quiet work witnessed only by the sounds of the wilderness—animal calls, insect choruses, and wind through the vegetation. These elements overtake the viewer’s sensory field, creating an atmosphere of mystery and quiet respect that transforms a grim duty into something approaching the sacred.
Shot entirely on location in the Eastern Plains, the film uses the region’s vast darkness and haunting soundscape to explore themes of loss and the rituals that bind communities together in the face of violence.
The film was post-produced in the United States with generous support from the Bush Foundation for the Arts and the Minnesota State Arts Board.
