To The Dead
TO THE DEAD follows a solitary figure as he walks through Bogotá’s Central Cemetery, his first-person narration meandering between the tombstones and through decades of national trauma.
His observations reveal insights into how the personal intersects with the social and political. His narrative is infused with contradictory thoughts and emotions, illuminating how the intimate and traumatic are systematically excluded from the authoring of official national history.
Set against the sprawling necropolis that houses Colombia’s collective memory, the film uses the cemetery’s geography—its grand mausoleums and forgotten graves—as both literal and metaphorical landscape for exploring how a nation remembers, misinterprets, and forgets its own history.
